As a nurse, it is my job to make you healthy. That is, to increase your lifespan or optimize that time you have been given.
Healthcare is often focused on extending your lifespan as much as possible. Another way to put that is we are increasing your quantity of life.
I want to you to focus on your quality of life. That means something different to each person. For most, it means doing the things you love, with the people you love.
Find your passion. If you have an interest, pursue it. Learn about it, practice it, and DO it. If you have limitations, all the more reason to try out new things to discover where you can express your talents.
Be creative. The people who have creative hobbies put their feelings into their art. I am talking about any activity that challenges your mind.
Take up juggling. Try drawing. Go digging in the garden. Carve some wood. Rearrange your furniture. Bake bread. Write a story. Learn a language.
A lot of people see these activities and give up. They say they aren’t good at it.
You have to be bad at something before you can be good at it.
Do it! Fail. Learn the lessons from the last attempt. Again, only better. It won’t take long before you improve. Don’t worry about the result. The entire purpose is to learn and express yourself.
Once you start to gain confidence, you achieve a state of flow. Also known as being in the zone, you become focused and fall into your project. Read about it here… it’s one of the secrets to happiness.
Spend time with those you love. Share the skill you have been working on, if you feel ready. Spend your life with people you love, doing what you love, for your own quality of life.
