How to find a Primary Care doctor near you

Now that I convinced you to make a primary care provider (PCP) appointment, how do you find one?

  1. Contact your insurance, they will give you a list of providers.
  2. Call your local large health organization and ask for providers taking new patients.
  3. Ask friends and neighbors who they use and trust. Contact their offices to see if they take your insurance and are seeing new patients.
  4. Do a web search in your area for “primary care near me.”

Make an appointment with the first one you find, even if it isn’t ideal. This is to get your “foot in the door.” If they are too far away, or the appointment is far off, you want to keep searching.

Call the next PCP you find that takes your insurance, and schedule an appointment if it is a better fit. Cancel the first one in favor of the better appointment. Repeat this as necessary.

This can be time consuming, but considering your health is your greatest asset… it is worth it.
